Module H continues the route taken by Hermes in 2011 with the presentation of its contemporary furniture, fabrics and wallpaper collections. Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Hermes artistic director, asked the architect Shigeru Ban to develop this path further and to design a modular su-ystem for covering walls and:or creating partitions. Won over by the innovative and creative nature of the proposal, Shigeru Ban developed the briefing in-depth, achieving a design with a genuinely architectural nature: he created a structure to fix to the wall or to be self-standing, constituted by an aluminium grid, laser-cut following a dense pattern in the shape of a 'H', which allows for the covering modules to e-be attached, allowing light and air to pass through, and makes the grid pleasant even when it remains in view. Developed from a 90 cm square, the modules form a geometric set, with a combination of squares and rectangles. Thanks to their support in honeycomb aluminium and to the ingenious simplicity of the insertion, the modules (covered in suede, leather, or fabric) are easily assembled and disassembled, allowing for geometric and colour effects on the walls to be varied at will.
