About

In 1837, Thierry Hermès, a harness maker, moved to Paris. Since then, his descendants have worked in the company's building. In 1880, his son transferred the family business to the now famous store on Faubourg Saint-Honoré, and extended its activity to saddlery. He soon provided the stables of the international aristocracy with saddles and harnesses. In 1918, with the invention of the automobile, Émile Hermès, grand-son of the founder, foresaw the changes in transportation and anticipated new lifestyles. Thus was the birth of Hermes’ leather goods line, which continues to grow. Today Hermès follows its founders creative footsteps through a wide variety of crafts including leather goods and saddlery, pret-a-porter fashion ready-to-wear for men and women, shoes, belts, gloves, hats, silk and textiles, jewelry, furniture, upholstery, wallpaper, tableware, perfumes and watches.
