At the request of 1616/ Arita Japan, one of the oldest producers of Japanese porcelain, Scholten & Baijings, the couple of Dutch designers Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings, have designed a truly original collection, in three series (Minimal, Colourful and Extraordinary, corresponding to the degree of complexity of the decoration), in which the Asian and European cultures complement each other wonderfully. Arita porcelain is renowned for the superb quality of its raw material and hand-painted decorations. After a careful colour analysis conducted on historical masterpieces, Scholten & Baijings have focused on typical Japanese shades (watercolour blue, light green, red-orange and ochre yellow) which form the traditional Arita palette. With their solid colour, dishes and bowls thus bear the Scholten & Baijings hallmark albeit remaining genuinely Japanese. This has given rise to compositions in which the colours are presented in layers, in different shades of glase, combines with the natural colour of Arita porcelain, a delicate grey-white which makes it unique throughout the world.
