Soulmates Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel founded Studio Job in 2000 and won the EDIDA Young Design Talent in 2005. Alongside this they have also won several EDIDA product awards, namely for their ‘Paper Chandelier’ and ‘Biscuit Collection’ in 2007, ‘Archives Wallpaper’ in 2015, ‘Perished Persian’ in 2011 and ‘Job Cabinet’ in 2012. The design duo met at the Dutch Design Academy in Eindhoven, and started the studio after graduating.

In the words of Job Smeets, their goal is to ‘build up an œuvre, not score a few hits’. Contemporary pioneers of personal expression, their work eternally astounds with its irony and eclecticism. The pair maintain that they promote the idea of high quality yet ecclectic design, expressing decoration in an almost manic style. More recently the studio have been focussing their work on language, whilst combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. Their work can be found in more than forty museums around the world, and they have had dozens of solo exhibitions.

1. What did winning the EDIDA award Young Designer of the Year mean for you? It meant a stimulance to proceed.

2. Who are your mentors? Many: from Johan Melchior Dinglinger to Donald Duck....From Jeff Koons to Memphis.

3. What are your upcoming projects? Always around 50 projects going on. From a new exhibition in China to an installation in Italy to a solo at MAD Museum in NYC.
