We asked seven EDIDA winners based in Milan to share their favoured spots of the city, in the run up to the closing of EXPO Milan at the end of October.

RADETSKY Opened in 1988 by Vincent Iannetti, the project transformed a simple bar in Largo La Foppa into a cafe with a strong personality, characterized by its innovative architecture designed by architect Florenzia Coast. Since then the establishment has been a reference point for Milan’s social life. Designed to offer clients a non-stop service from morning to night, its kitchen is always open and a bartender always available. Corso Garibaldi, 105.

Rodolfo Dordoni

A Milanese architect and designer with a passion for gourmet food, his studio is in China Town, northern Milan. www.rodolfodordoni.it

PIZZERIA SANTA LUCIA Historic pizzeria in the heart of Milan open since 1929. Among the very first clients were Gabriele D'Annunzio, Harry Belafonte, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, Plācido Domingo, Vittorio Gassman, Marcello Mastroianni, Alberto Sordi, Maria Callas, Alain Delon, followed by famous football players, directors and TV stars. Each of these well-known clients leaves pictures of themselves with a message on the wall – which now has upwards of 400 photos, wrapping guests in a wonderful celebrity atmosphere. Via S. VENERANDA FABBRICA DEL DUOMO Opened in 1953 by art critic Ugo Nebbia, the idea took shape in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, when it became necessary to find a way to archive and preserve all information related to the history and construction of the Cathedral. The museum was re-opened in the 1960s and extended by ten rooms, several of which were of great architectural prestige. The project was achieved by concession of the Milan City Council, whilst the architect Ernesto Brivio completely re-fitted and re-organised all rooms. In 2013 the Museum was re-opened after a long period of renovation and re-fitting under a project by the architect Guido Canali. Via dell'Arcivescovado, 1.

Architect, designer and art director of Kartell, Ferrucio Laviani’s studio is behind Parco Venezia in central Milan. www.laviani.com

NILUFAR GALLERY Gallery founded by Nina Yashar and her sister Nilu. Since the end of the 90s the gallery has served as a reference point for historical design lovers and those who wish to follow the evolution of contemporary design. Via Della Spiga, 32.
PAC - PADIGLIONE D’ARTE CONTEMPORANEA (Pavillion of Contemporary Art) Founded in 1947, today PAC is the exhibition space ‘par excellence’ for contemporary art in Milan, constantly projected towards new international trends and a strong promoter of national artists. Via Palestro, 14.
VILLA NECCHI CAMPIGLIO House-Museum in the center of Milan, designed by Italian Architect Piero Portaluppi between 1932 and 1935. Via Mozart, 14.
PANETTERIA GIORDANO Historic patisserie in the very center of Milan. According to Ferrucio Laviani, they have the best cakes in Milan. Via Tommaso Salvini, 3, Porta Venezia.

Piero Lissoni

Architect, art director, and designer with a studio in Brera, central Milan. www.lissoniassociati.com

MUSEO BAGATTI VALSECCHI Historic house and museum that exhibits an extraordinary collection from the end of the 19th century compiled by the Barons Fausto (1843-1914) and Giuseppe (1845-1934) Bagatti Valsecchi. Their collections and decorations are mainly Neo-Renaissance, the popular style of the time, however there are also several paintings and artifacts from the 15th and 16th century that create an ambiance inspired by the princely Lombard homes of the 16th century. MUSEO POLDI PEZZOLI Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli began his ‘house museum’ project in 1849, made up of Lombard, Venetian, Tuscan and Renaissance paintings as well as antique armour, furniture and applied arts. The museum opened to the public on 25 April 1881, during the Milan National Exhibition. Via Alessandro Manzoni, 12.
PRINCI - PIAZZA XXV APRILE Pizzeria, bistrot, and cocktail bar. Known as the ‘Armani of Bread’ in its London store, this chain of four in Milan boasts Pino Cuttaia as its head chef. Piazza XXV Aprile, 5.

A well-known pair of Italian designers and architects, they share their home-studio in the Navigli area of southern Milan. www.palombaserafini.com

CERESIO 7 Two swimming pools with a 360° view on Milan skyline on the rooftop of a historical building near Porta Nuova. A perfect place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, apertivo or dinner. Ceresio 7 was designed by Storage Studio with interior design by Dimore Studio. Via Ceresio, 7.

Patricia Urquiola

Spanish designer born in Oviedo but Milanese by adoption, her studio is in Porta Venezia, eastern Milan. www.patriciaurquiola.com

FIORI Owned by Rosalba Piccinni the cantafiorista – a florist and jazz singer – Fiori is much more than just a flower shop. Via Mazzini, 48.
BAR BASSO Now a true Milanese institution, the historic Bar Basso cocktail bar is most known for its signature cocktail Negroni Sbagliato, invented here and served in huge scenographic glasses with 6x8cm ice cubes inside. Via Plinio, 39.
