Design and art have always been at the forefront of social change. The EDIDA Sustainable Achievement award seeks to recognize and honor designers that use their voice and creativity to protect the planet and champion eco-conscious mindsets. The 25 ELLE Decoration Editors-in-Chief voted from projects across the industry and the world, choosing the Tane Garden House as the 2024 winner.
The Tane Garden House by Paris-based Japanese designer, Tsuyoshi Tane, is a locally sourced structure using only stone, wood, rope, and straw from the neighboring areas for construction, maximizing sustainability and community. The project symbolizes the designer’s guiding philosophy, “archeology of the future,” and aims to bridge the past with the future. The Vitra campus, an architectural destination compiling museums, production buildings and architectural icons, is home to the sustainable structure.
