Biography
Born in Belgium in 1968, Simons studied industrial design in Genk. Inspired by the work of designers such as Martin Margiela, he moved to Antwerp. Fuelled by his love for both rebellious youth cultures and traditional menswear; he emerges in fashion halfway through the nineties. From the first collection on, music, art, performance, images and words have a substantial role in clarifying the kind of world Raf Simons wants to project.
In 2005 Simons became artistic director of the Jil Sander label. From 2012 to October 2015, Raf Simons joined Christian Dior as the creative director of the women prêt-à-porter and the Christian Dior Couture collection. Also in 2012, Raf Simons started the successful collaboration with Kvadrat.
