Biography
Nigerian-born British designer Duro Olowu (b. Lagos 1965) is internationally renowned for his womenswear label launched in 2004. In 2005, he was awarded New Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.
All rendered in vivid prints of his design juxtaposed in the off-beat yet harmonious combinations that have become Olowu's signature. They reflect the designers background and a myriad of international inspirations including art, textiles, culture, film and music.
Pieces from his collections have been acquired for the collections of various international institutions and museums including RISD (Rhode Island School of Art and Design) and FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology New York). Olowu has also curated various contemporary art exhibitions, including “Making and Unmaking” in 2016 at Camden Arts Centre in London and “Duro Olowu: Seeing Chicago“ at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in 2020. More recently, Olowu designed a collection of furnishing textiles for Soane Britain . He lives and works in London.
