Biography
Alfredo Häberli was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He moved to Switzerland in 1977, where in 1991, he graduated in Industrial design at the Höhere Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich. In 1993 he set up his own studio, and subsequently worked for firms such as Alias, Authentics, Edra, Driade, Luceplan, Thonet and Zanotta. Recently Alfredo Häberli has developed products and designed for Alias, BMW, Camper, de Sede, Georg Jensen, Iittala, Kvadrat, 25hours, Moroso, Offecct and Schiffini. In 2014 he won the Swiss Grand Award for Design. His works are swiftly becoming icons of this age: objects and spaces that embody our particular living conditions, rather than those of the future or past. Häberli opens our eyes to the beauty and wonder of the worlds, and shows us new angles of thought and vision. He is a designer, who knows that for poetry one needs discipline as much as whimsy, and who is at ease with all the tools and media of his trade.
