The basic components of Davide Groppi design are simplicity, lightness, emotion and invention. Calabrese collaborated with Groppi’s company for the SAMPEI lamp, which won an EDIDA award in the 2012 lighting category.
Biography
Groppi has been designing lamps since the late 1980s which he manufactures and distributes all over the world through his eponymous company. Ever since he started, Groppi has stood out for his interest in technology and innovation, care for design, humanistic approach to projects, international attitude, and awareness of the social aspects of the business.
In 2014 on the occasion of the 23rd edition of Compasso d’Oro ADI 2014 Davide Groppi was awarded two prizes for his SAMPEI and NULLA lights.
The factory headquarter is in Piacenza, where Groppi works with a select group of people and where the first “Spazio Esperienze” was opened in 2012 for architects and those interested in the production and philosophy of the company. Calabrese was born in Brindisi and now lives and works in Pescara. He is a doctor, professor and researcher in Architectural Composition at the Faculty of Architecture at University G.D’Annunzio. He was Assessor to urban Planning, visiting researcher at the C.C.A.C of San Francisco, College of Environmental and Landscape Design at University of California, Berkeley.
