Biography
Launched in 2001, ELEMENTAL emerged from Alejandro Aravena’s time at Harvard University, developed in collaboration with Gonzalo Arteaga, Juan Cerda, Víctor Oddó, and Diego Torres. The studio works across housing, infrastructure, public space, and architecture, focusing on projects that address social and urban conditions through incremental design approaches.
Aravena has held multiple academic and institutional roles, including Honorary International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (2010) and member of the London School of Economics Cities Programme Council (2011). ELEMENTAL’s work has been recognized with the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale (2008) and the Gothenburg Award for Sustainability (2017). In 2016, Aravena received the Pritzker Architecture Prize and curated the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale. Since 2020, he serves as President of the Pritzker Prize Jury.
