About
The company began with Martin Bulthaup, who moved from the north of Germany to Bavaria where he bought a small saw-mill in 1949 and started to produce kitchen sideboards. His ambition was to create innovative solutions for kitchen design that revolved around the needs of a changing society. His visionary principles and uncompromising stance in using only materials of the highest quality, coupled with his passion for working out intricate details and ethical approach to the selection of materials, were all virtues pursued by his son, Gerd Bulthaup, and his daughter Ingeborg Eckert, who assumed management of the company in 1976. In 2010 Marc O. Eckert, grandson of the company's founder, took over as sole CEO of Bulthaup GmbH & Co. KG. This strategic decision allowed the family-owned company to strengthen its position as an independent family operation. Proprietary seamless interior components, premium wood veneers layered with aluminium, unit fronts with a special soft-touch paint and aluminium surfaces produced with a unique anodizing method are but a few of the details that reflect Bulthaup’s combination of high-level craftsmanship and special production technologies. Product milestones for the company include the introduction of the kitchen workbench in 1988, system 25 in 1995, system 20 in 1997 as well as the currently available product lines bulthaup b3, bulthaup b2 and bulthaup b1.
