3 QUESTIONS TO…

FREDERIK VAN HEEREVELD — EDIDA Young Designer of the Year 2006

Following on from our last interview with an EDIDA Young Designer of the Year, this time we are putting 3 questions to passionate designer Frederik Van Heereveld, founder of his own design institute FEEK.

After studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Van Heereveld set up FEEK in 2003. Describing itself as the ‘architect’s toolbox’ FEEK designs comfortable, functional and contemporary furniture and shapes.

In 2007 Van Heereveld met Inflate designer Nick Crosbie, with whom he has been running a design studio in Ophblaasbaar since 2011. Categorizing themselves as mobile property developers, at the moment the pair are working on all sorts of mobile accomodation from a holiday house to refugee shelter. All their work is created on an exciting mobile architecture system called AIRCLAD.com, including their latest product ‘Snoozy’, the world's first inflatable hotel, which won the Red Dot Design Award this year.

1. What did winning the EDIDA award Young Designer of the Year mean for you? Opening doors to a whole new future.

2. Who are your mentors? From my Mum to Eames and from Steve Jobs over to Enzo Ferrari.

3. What are your upcoming projects? The SNOOZY, the world’s first and fastest Mobile Hotel and an inflatable car running or air.
